Oxney Class
Welcome to Oxney Classroom!
Oxney is our mixed Year 4 and Year 5 class, where students are supported in developing their skills and knowledge across a wide range of subjects. In this classroom, we work hard to foster a sense of responsibility, independence, and curiosity, setting a solid foundation for the exciting challenges of Key Stage 2.
What We Do in Oxney
- Challenging Literacy: In Oxney, we take our literacy skills to the next level. Students read a variety of texts, including fiction, non-fiction, and poetry, and develop their comprehension, vocabulary, and writing skills. Our writing focuses on structure, grammar, and creativity, ensuring that children can express themselves clearly and effectively.
- Maths Mastery: We encourage a deep understanding of mathematical concepts in Oxney, from multiplication and division to fractions and geometry. Students work on solving complex problems, developing fluency in mental and written methods, and applying their skills to real-life contexts.
- Science Exploration: Oxney students engage in exciting scientific investigations that spark curiosity about the natural world. Topics such as forces, light, materials, and living organisms are explored through hands-on experiments, ensuring children not only learn scientific facts but also develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
- Cross-Curricular Learning: Our curriculum is designed to integrate subjects, making learning more meaningful and connected. For example, students might explore the impact of the Industrial Revolution in history while applying geographical knowledge to understand global changes. This approach helps to see learning as a connected and continuous process.
- Creative Arts: Oxney students have plenty of opportunities to express themselves through art, drama, and music. We study famous artists, experiment with different techniques, and create original work. Drama and music provide a creative outlet, while also boosting teamwork and confidence.
- History and Geography: We study key historical periods, from ancient civilisations to more modern history, and relate this to our geography curriculum. Understanding the world’s geographical features, cultures, and environmental issues enables Oxney students to become more aware and engaged global citizens.
- Personal Development: In Oxney, we place great importance on developing not just academic skills, but also the personal qualities that help children grow into confident and compassionate individuals. We encourage teamwork, respect, and kindness, with activities that allow children to build self-esteem and resilience.
