School Vision and Values

Our School Vision:

We strive to collaborate with all members of our community to feel valued, nurtured and empowered as they embark upon their journey to become the very best that God intended. Throughout their voyage of discovery with us, we ensure all children are provided with a rich curriculum, experiences which promote courage and a strong moral purpose underpinned by our Christian values; preparing them to become compassionate citizens within our rural community and the wider world.

At Wittersham Church of England Primary School, we believe that the teachings of Jesus Christ are not just words in a book but a guiding light for our students and our community. That's why we've chosen the story of the Road to Emmaus as our central Bible story. This powerful narrative from the Bible exemplifies our commitment to journeying together with the support of Jesus and embracing our core values of compassion, courage, and cooperation.

The Road to Emmaus - A Journey of Transformation

The story of the Road to Emmaus is found in the Gospel of Luke (Luke 24:13-35). It narrates the journey of two disciples of Jesus who were feeling lost, confused, and disheartened following His crucifixion. On the road, they encounter a stranger who turns out to be the risen Jesus. This encounter transforms their despair into hope, doubt into faith, and sadness into joy.

Our students selected this image of 'The Road to Emmaus' to reinforce our comprehension of the story and its profound influence on the choices and behaviours that shape our daily lives.

Why We Chose This Story

  1. Journeying Together: Just like the disciples on the road to Emmaus, we, as a school community, are on a journey together. We face challenges, doubts, and uncertainties, but we do so with the support and guidance of Jesus. This story reminds us that we are not alone in our journey; Jesus walks with us, offering His wisdom, comfort, and love.

  2. Compassion: Compassion is at the heart of our school values. The disciples on the road to Emmaus show compassion when they invite the stranger to stay with them. It's a lesson for us that we, too, should show kindness and empathy to those we encounter on our journey, both inside and outside our school.

  3. Courage: The disciples had the courage to recognise Jesus, even in their moments of doubt and confusion. Likewise, we encourage our students to be brave in facing challenges and to have the courage to stand up for what is right.

  4. Cooperation: The disciples' cooperation in sharing a meal with the stranger led to a profound revelation. We believe that cooperation, working together as a team, is vital for our school's success. By collaborating with one another, we can accomplish great things in the light of God.

Growing Together in the Light of God

Just as the disciples' encounter with Jesus brought them closer to God, we aim to grow together in the light of God by living out our school values of compassion, courage, and cooperation. By following these values, we can overcome obstacles and find strength in unity, just as the disciples did on the road to Emmaus.

Incorporating the story of the Road to Emmaus into our school life, we hope to inspire our students, staff, and community to journey together, find solace in the teachings of Jesus, and foster a spirit of compassion, courage, and cooperation. Together, we can create an environment where every individual can thrive, and where the light of God's love shines brightly in all that we do.
