“Wittersham CEP School supplements our curriculum with extra-curricular opportunities for pupils to extend their knowledge and understanding and to improve their skills in a range of artistic, creative and sporting activities. The school is lucky enough to benefit from a fully resourced kitchen and beautiful music room as well as a school garden and large field. Some clubs are constant throughout the year whilst others are flexible according to children’s interests and seasonal appropriateness.”
Musical Instrument Practice
We run two sessions at School. On Monday Lunchtime (Juniors) and Thursday Lunchtime (Year One and Two).
The children learn basic stitches to start with and then progress by using their new found skills on a variety of projects, from bags to decorations, to gifts for parents, siblings and friends. The Club is open to both boys and girls, some children come every week, others dip in and out. A variety of fabric is used in order to enable the children to test and challenge their developing skills. They also learn how to sew on buttons and trimmings so their repertoire is ever growing. We were commissioned by the Church last year to make a Welcome cloth for the entrance area. The children involved are very proud to see their finished work on display every time they visit. It is very encouraging how enthusiastic the children are about carrying on their skills at home, several have their own sewing boxes, but this is an optional extra, as all resources are provided. Donations of felt and sewing needles are always welcome.
Due to popular demand an infant club has started this year. In order to provide as much one to one tuition as possible. the Year 1 and 2 sessions are in blocks of four. The children have been developing their running stitch skills (no mean achievement) by sewing felt bookmarks before moving on to Festive decorations. Their progress and enthusiasm is wonderful. Resources are provided, but donations of felt in particular is always most welcome.
Movers and Groovers
Movers and Groovers is a dance club held in the school every Friday for boys and girls. It is run by an external dance club, so there is a weekly charge payable for each session. It is a great way for children to learn about the rhythm of dance, and keep fit at the same time.
