“Wittersham CEP School supplements our curriculum with extra-curricular opportunities for pupils to extend their knowledge and understanding and to improve their skills in a range of artistic, creative and sporting activities. The school is lucky enough to benefit from a fully resourced kitchen and beautiful music room as well as a school garden and large field. Some clubs are constant throughout the year whilst others are flexible according to children’s interests and seasonal appropriateness.”
Each Class is responsible for a raised bed in the school gardens. Seeds are planted and watered, plants are nurtured and produce harvested for use in the school kitchens. The gardening club is currently run by one of our parents, Georgina Dunham. She has recently purchased a greenhouse, which will enable the children to start the growing of their seeds earlier in the season. The current crop of seeds planted for harvest in 2015 are as follows: Sunflower, Broad Beans, Italia Beans, Radish, Beetroot, Cabbage and Brussel Sprout. The following seeds have been planted in the greenhouse: Runner Bean, Tomato and Cucumber. We are all very proud of our gardens and as an Eco School are keen to keep them producing well. Compost heaps, a wormery, and a waterbutt all help to sustain the area. We have a super school site here and the gardens have become a very important feature. Well done everyone.
