Ashford District Tournaments 2016/17

Year 1 and 2 pupils competed in the Ashford20160623_152628 District Infant Agility Tournament at the Julie Rose Stadium on Thursday 24th June. They had a very successful afternoon finishing 4th out of 12 schools.

The following pupils from year 4 and 5 attended a Dodgeball Tournament on Tuesday: George, Jessica, Abi, Phoebe, Jake, William, James M, James P, Katie S, Sophie, Sunny, Kallum and Daisy. They competed as Wittersham 1 and Wittersham 2, with the 1’s finishing runners up and the 2’s finishing joint 4th. Both teams were a credit to the school, with the way they competed and conducted themselves, they all said it was a brilliant Tournament.

Congratulations to the year 5/6 Sportshall Athletics Team,for an outstanding performance at the Ashford and Tenterden Sportshall Athletics Tournament at the Stour Centre. They displayed a great desire to try and win every event, and are definitely a credit to the school.

Congratulations to our Cross Country Team

I was very proud to take you to the Cross Country event at Cranbrook Rugby Club on 10th November. Your perseverance and effort was truly outstanding.

Your co-operation and sportsmanship was exceptional towards each. A special congratulations: to Hannah for winning her event. A very proud Mrs O

 

15 Junior pupils took part in the WOKSSA Athletics Festival at the Julie Rose Stadium in Ashford, on Tuesday July 7th. They all competed very well on the day, with some outstanding individual performances.

 

Football

The school runs a successful coaching scheme, with after school training taking place for all year groups. The children are trained separately as Infants and Juniors enabling them to develop their skills within their own peer group. The school team competes in tournaments throughout the year, with tournaments also being hosted for years 1 & 2 and years 4 & 5. Girls are actively encouraged to play football, as it is forms part of the schools PE curriculum

Kwik Cricket

During the summer, Kwik Cricket is a popular sport at Wittersham School, with after school coaching proving very popular with both boys and girls.
The year 5 and 6 pupils take part in the WOKSSA and Ashford District Kwik Cricket Tournaments, the year 3 and 4 pupils take part in the Ashford District Kwik Cricket Tournament.

Rounders

The juniors play rounders during the summer, they also compete in the WOKSSA and Ashford District Rounders Tournaments.

Athletics

Years 4,5 and 6 take part in the 5star awards scheme which involves running, 75 metres and 50metres against the clock, skipping 50 metres against the clock, the 10 metre shuttle run against the clock and throwing the rounders ball as far as possible. Points are awarded after each activity. Two boys and two girls from years 3, 4, 5 and 6 are selected every year to compete in the WOKSSA Athletics Festival at the Julie Rose Stadium in Ashford. Teams from 3/4 and years 5/6, are also selected to take part in the Ashford District Sports Agility Tournament at the Stour Centre every year.

Tennis

Tennis is played as part of the schools PE curriculum. Year 5 and 6 pupils also compete in the Ashford District Mini Tennis Tournament.

Swimming

During Term 6 our pool is in constant use with all classes swimming for three sessions a week. At the end of the term we hold three swimming galas, Infants, Lower Juniors and Upper Juniors.

We enjoy our sport at Wittersham.
